lazy sunday
It's been a lovely lazy Sunday around the nerdy nest, but at the same time we've been as busy as ever! This is just a quick post-- I'm testing out a new Blogger app..here's hoping it works!
For tonight, enjoy the last bit of your weekend and a gratuitous kitten picture.

a little red, white and blue
I finally made time to redecorate our mantle. It had been spring green with dashes of pink since about March, so a quick refresher was in need. I decided to stick with classic summer colors with a barely beachy but totally Americana feel: red, white, and blue.
For the centerpiece, I used my coffee filter wreath from our girl's crafternoon with my favorite polka dot ribbon in red. I added in a cute lacey planter from IKEA ($2) a red lattice votive holder from Target ($1) that I had on hand. In my "summer decor stash" I found a trio of star shaped baskets that I bought about two years ago from the Salvation Army, which was perfect to add a little patriotism without being over the top. Finally, I grabbed a black frame and popped a quote in to remind me that "the best is yet to be."
So far I'm liking the simplicity and how it feels summery without going totally tropical or being saturated in Uncle Sam. How are you decorating for summer?
